Three Speckled Hens

Three Speckled Hens

Hi everyone,

This is Bonnie and I want to tell you all about Three Speckled Hens in Paso Robles, Calif. Amy was not able to go so my friend Barbie and I went up last week. The show was Sat and Sunday. We went opening day at 10. Big mistake, we should have gone for the early birds. Big sales are happening between 8-10 or early openings at all these markets. We missed seeing a lot of good junk!!!! Note to self…go early next time!!!!

Sweet Peas Charm

The ladies who put this one on are experts. We heard no complaints, no whining, every vendor was happy and making sales. The attendees were thrilled. If you have never gone, and you should, it is on the Paso Robles fairgrounds. They are set in a western theme which totally suits this market. There is tons of shady seating, tons of restrooms, tons of food vendors, and the dealers know what they are doing! Best junk ever but, also the best displays.

Out by the shed

One of my favorite sayings is that we don’t buy much because we’re old (me, not Amy) and our houses are stuffed full of junk. We usually buy one or two small things to remind us of the market or for gifts. This time I wanted to buy everything. The dealers know how busy this place gets and stocked up accordingly.

As busy as they get, I have to commend the vendors on how nice they are. I know I wouldn’t be as pleasant after standing in the heat for several hours for 2 days but, they all answered questions and gave directions to restrooms with smiley faces. I guess if you are going to be a vendor you know what you are in for but, let’s give them a round of applause. I know I couldn’t do it, could you??

Three Speckled Hens

It’s a busy busy month, this weekend we will be going to The Vintage Marketplace Ca in Vista. I love this market and we have followed it from Rainbow to Galway Downs to Rainbow and now to Vista. It also is a trek for us, about 1 1/2 hours each way but, it is worth the drive. It’s open Fri and Sat. Are you going???

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Thanks for reading, Bonnie and Amy

Thank you, Fall!!!!

Three Speckled Hens truck

At long last it feels like Fall. most days anyway in So. Calif our version of Fall. Cool enough now for us to get to some more stores, meet new vendors and see what’s out there.

We had a busy Sept. even with the heat. Visited Lake Elsinore, Ontario, Rainbow, Thousand Oaks, Yucaipa, Glendora, Riverside, Upland and more. The Fall colors are here!!!  If you check the ig you will see we are trying to post everything we can with flowers, leaves, greenery.

We have some projects in the works, we will be announcing soon. But, this last weekend in Sept, we went to Paso Robles for Three Speckled Hens flea market. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a big one. Over 100 vendors, and spread out over the Paso Robles fair and event center. We were so excited we could hardly take a breath, to see all the vendors we met last year and meet some “new to us” other ones. So fun to get away for a few days and to be going there, it was such a good time!!!

Junque Love

Amy here: Our trip to Paso was so much fun! (with the exception of the ‘death motel off the 101). We made another side trip to Morro Bay so I could gather sand dollars and stop by Junque Love again. This store has brought in so many new and exciting items.

At the ‘Hens’ we were honored to see some of our sweet friends. Junk Style Design, Lilwoods, Countryside Barn and Plaster Paint Company. And to meet a few new ones (some for the second time) Atelier, Rusty Love, Twisselman Trading Co., Farm Girls Market. This is one of the best markets in the lower half of California. The Hens girls do a fabulous job getting it ready and bringing in vendors with fantastic finds.

We will be posting events soon for Oct Nov Dec. If you want us to post yours send an email to weremadabout@gmail.com. No charge, we just want to keep having events and stores to go to, and we assume you want to hear about them. Our ig is getting closer to 5,000 when we will have a giveaway, it’s at 4,715 as of today!!! Hooray!!! Our plans for Oct include @vistavintageandmakersmarket, a Halloween party @Shabbyology and @thecoastvintagemarket so far.

We noticed that the dealers and store owners feel re-energized now too. They are busy busy busy getting holiday stuff out, rearranging, and clearing out summer goods. It’s a fun time to visit your favorites and make some new ones. On our ig we try to post addresses for these stores so it’s easy to find. Believe us when we tell you we are not highlighting every store we go to, only the ones we think you will like. We will be visiting more vintage clothing stores and adding them, because they are so popular now. Almost every store has added flannels, at the very least, and some are carrying only clothing. Great trend. Lots of dealers are making or tweaking their flannels and the results are great. Ie: @checkeredpastclothing and @repurposedsoul and @sarahs_junkdrawer. Then there is @flea_market_flair too, and @bblessed, one of the first vendors we saw with them. Let us know your favorites. We‘re Mad About them all!

We’re Back…………………

Matilda’s Mouse

WE ARE BACK!!!

This is Amy…

After a seemingly forever un-intended and unwanted hiatus, we are back up and running. We would like to thank everyone for their support while we worked through this. Our site was hacked and infected with some malicious spam. Our blog links were re-routed to some unsavory content. Our host Siteground protected us and our readers by taking the site down immediately.  We would highly recommend Siteground for hosting. Sucuri cleaned our and will be keeping us safe from now on. Once we decided to engage Sucuri, they had us back up in a few hours.

Matilda’s Mouse

While we were down, we were quite busy. Mom (Bonnie) has been visiting lots of markets and keeping everyone updated on Instagram  and Facebook. I am so thankful for her.

We are quite excited to say we will be going to Three Speckled Hens in a couple of weeks! Our room is booked and tickets printed. This is our first (really) out of town event!! We are looking forward to seeing everyone we know and meeting new vendors. Watch for us, we will be sporting some new We’re Mad About… swag.

Boarding House Broads

I have indeed been to quite a few stores and flea markets. Today I made it out to Matilda’s Mouse in Valley Center with a friend. It was quite a trek for us but we found it! A darling barn filled with antiques and vintage pieces, it was worth the trip. Every month now they have a 2 day event out there, with vendors outside. The very first one we saw was Boarding House Broads. Tracy and Valentina are so fun, so informative. They have been very busy lately because Tracy is heading up the Vista Vintage and Makers Market which is April 30th. This is the second one and now they have 80 some vendors. It is going to be so much fun, can’t wait. See you there????

Matilda’s Mouse is a great place to explore. We went around twice to catch everything. The other outside vendors were tables full of antiques, lots of silver and china. Fascinating to browse. We would recommend going out there, the next one is May 19-20, 10-5.
