Our Vintage Emporia

Hi everyone,

For some time we have been asking business owners and vendors to write their stories for us. (Still waiting for some of you!) Today we have one for you. Our Vintage Emporia 719 E Route 66 Glendora Ca., is one of the stores we regularly visit. Watching it evolve has been a fun experience, just as many of the places we go.

In their words:

Vintage Emporia

The Evolution

“What once began as a hobby, has transformed into so much more that we could have imagined. We are amazed and humbled every time a customer walks in.

It began with two companies who started out in warehouses, selling goods every other weekend. We joined forces and opened an actual storefront. Before long, customers became artists and vendors selling their creations and found objects. Each with their own story to tell.

Every inch of the shop is filled with interesting objects-handmade, new and found. Over 20 small businesses sell goods with us, in addition to our own creations. It’s a place of wonder and amazement. You can find everything from handmade reclaimed wood furniture to beautiful vintage pieces to decorate your home. We have unique home decor, handmade gifts, and beautifully curated vintage items. It truly has become a wonderland for the Home.”

Vintage Emporia

This area-Glendora, Covina, Monrovia and surrounding cities- is becoming a mecca for the vintage, antique, reuse, re purpose type of business. We love all these stores and promote them on our Instagram often. So scroll through it, make a plan, and get out and visit them all. Be sure and tell them We’re Mad About sent you!!!

If you are a store near us and want us to stop by or host a giveaway, just send a pm and we’ll be there shortly!! We got a message today about @cinnamonsticks in Los Alamitos from a friend, and are making our plans to go visit them. Thanks to @ madenewhome. Also met the owner of @fountainvalleyvintage  in Yucaipa, we had fun talking about her workshops and expansion. So it’s been a busy start to the year-getting even busier this weekend at @junkinthetrunkvintagemarket in Pomona. See everyone there???

Junk in the Trunk-Pomona Fairplex

Hi, it’s Bonnie and Amy,

The Vintage Blvd

Vindustrial

Woohoo!!! The big shows are back!! Starting with Junk in the Trunk at the Pomona Fairplex Feb 24-25. We’ll be there on Sat. We love seeing the vendors and the crowds at these events. Everyone brings their best stuff and the booths are just beautifully arranged.

Last year we went and saw so many vendors we knew. Attached are a few pictures. It is great to talk to them and see what they have picked, painted, produced and come up with each time. The Fairplex has a nice atmosphere with music and food vendors. For some of these vendors, this is the only show they are doing so it’s nice to catch up. Among our favorites on the list this time are Miller Rustic Design, Seahouse Design, the Junk Diva, Lilwoods Vintage, Ripe Design, Anything Rustic-really they are all our favorites. It’s $8.00 a day, early bird $20 if you buy before 2/19/18. Parking is unfortunately $12, but that goes to the venue, not the show. It’s worth it to see all the vendors together, imagine how many stores and pop-ups you would have to drive to, to see this many and they are the best of the best!! Check out all this years vendors on their website, www.junkinthetrunkvintagemarket.com

Paper Jar

So get out your calendars, get your lists ready, and get over there. We’re wearing our comfortable shoes , and bringing our smiles. We’re so happy about this show!!!

February Calendar of Events

Sundappled!

Sundappled

Hi, it’s Bonnie,

One of the things we love best about doing our Instagram and blog is that we not only get to meet the owners or vendors but also hear their stories. One of those is Sundappled at 216 W. Foothill Blvd in Claremont. We discovered and posted this store a few months ago and wanted to give a little more info about them. Run by two sisters who are strong, motivated and want to share with their community, it’s a fun place to go with events happening all the time. Here’s how they describe themselves:

We are Women, We are Mothers, We are Wives. We are the “Ladies of the Foothills” and owners of Sundappled Boutique. We are nestled in the beautiful community of Claremont and inviting you to share in the journey of “Women Serving Women”. We are a boutique space filled with handcrafted items, created by local artists, and there is a movement taking place in our whimsical and creative boutique. We are a retail space with a community vibe!!!
Follow us at:

So drop by and visit them. It’s by all the  colleges and close to downtown Claremont, where there are many more restaurants and places to visit. There’s an event happening there Feb 24th. ” The big secret your shopping habits reveal about you,” is the name, pre registration required. Only one of the many events they do.

It’s a tough world out there!!

Pier2Oranges Instagram

As you all know we are out and about as much as possible and we have found out one thing for sure, it’s a tough world out there!!

We came up with a few tips for shoppers and store owners or vendors we have found that we wanted to share. It’s hard to stay in business and that is evident by the stores leaving us this year. Some of them-Vintage California in Orange, Shabby Attic in Glendora are regrouping and starting new ventures. Some like Lloyd and Lane in Pasadena just can’t keep going. One reason is rents keep going up. Some of our favorites are moving or looking for places. So if you are a shopper, keep in mind, if you want that store to be there next time you decide to visit, you need to patronize them (that means buy from them), BUT, it also means, tell your friends, put them on your Facebook, go to classes there, and talk about them, take pictures and put them on your Instagram. We just ask nicely first and find that almost everyone wants you to share. It’s a huge help.

For store owners and vendors-blow your own horn!! Take business cards or flyers to all events and ask other vendors to exchange stacks with you. We all have to help each other. Go to the businesses around you and ask if you can leave a stack. That pizza place across from you that smells so good would like you to recommend them and might return the favor!! Maybe you can get a promotion going with them, like 10% off if you bring in a receipt from each other!!! Be sure and tell customers to check out other vintage stores around you. When we go to an area we are more likely to return if there are 3-4 shops to wander around and a place to have lunch. There’s room for everyone, and none of you carry exactly the same pieces. Be generous with your advice.

Itty Bitty Vintage Trailer

Be nice!!! We have seen some stuff that is not so nice. Customers who are rude, vendors who snap back too quickly or are too sharp, people who steal-come on!!! We all have bad days but come on!!! We get our feelings hurt really fast and we bet you do too. Niceness, on the other hand, is contagious.

We love getting to know the vendors and store owners but a side of our instagram and blog we didn’t expect was getting to know other customers. We run into people all the time that go where we go. What fun that is. We may not know all your names but we recognize you!! There are so many people that love vintage, handmade, handcrafted and appreciate the time and talent put into it. And, of course, we love it when you know about us at We’re Mad About.

Every month we are putting out a list of all the events we know ahead of time. Help us by sending us your event and we’ll add it. We just had a business contact us today to check for conflicting events before they scheduled theirs-smart, huh? Love it when a vendor-example Ittybittyvintageshop-posts their upcoming events. Or when a vendor has a sign with their Instagram so you can look them up easily. We take a picture of those so we remember later to follow them, if we aren’t already. We want to go to everything we can and we know that’s true for a whole bunch of you. We have an email, weremadabout@gmail.com where you can send your listing too and any others you know about. Let’s all try to get the word out.

Looking forward to Feb/March and all the big shows coming. Hope to see you at some of them, it is going to be a great 2018!!!

New Adventures

Farm Girls market

We have loved producing this blog for the last two years and following all the amazing vendors and stores and seeing each grow. There are so many creative and kindhearted folks out there. This past month we have heard of a few stores closing and several vendors down scaling the events they do and branching into new ventures. It saddens us to see these businesses we love so much, close down. It is part of why we do what we do.

We;re Mad About… calendar

We have come to call ourselves more than just Bloggers or Instagrammers. We now consider ourselves to be Small Business Promoters or Social Media Marketers. In an effort to continue to help businesses grow, we expanded our services this past year with the first Annual We’re Mad About…calendar. We featured 11 unique stores/ vendors in 11 different cities across Southern California. This is part of our effort to continue our commitment to ‘our’ vendors and stores and to take that next step as a growing business. (we have them for sale, by the way) (send us an email to purchase, weremadabout@gmail.com) We would like to Thank Bill Harvey for his amazing graphic work and Valley Printing in Temecula for giving us a beautiful product.

Featured in the calendar: The Romantic Home, Poway Countryside Barn, Bucket of Nails, New again Furnishings, Sweet Peas Charm, Shabbyology, Shop-Eras, Serendipity Vintage Boutique, Vintique Alley,Needful Things Addiction, and The nest

As of today, we have almost 5000 followers on Instagram. 5000!!!!!!! We are blown away at the way our presence has grown. We believe in honesty ethical work and always holding to our integrity. We believe in being responsible and keeping our word. At times, we may slip and forget or mis-speak. We are human. But, we are always committed to doing what we can to help others.

We look forward to continuing to grow and bring taking new adventures along the way. Bonnie and I are brainstorming lots of exciting ideas. We hope you will continue to follow along.

Happy New Year!!

Amy and Bonnie
