Holiday Plans???

Hi, it’s Bonnie and Amy,

We just posted a holiday event Bonnie will be going to this Saturday Oct 21 at Embellished Nestings 6759 Brockton, Riverside. Beautiful store, open for the event 4-8, see flyer below or on our Instagram.

Embellished Nestings

And so it begins.

We already have a full calendar with all the stores we want to get too, but now we will start adding in all the pop-ups and special shows. Love love love this. So a request–if your favorite store is having an event or you are participating in any and you want to shout it out, let us know. Send us a flyer and we’ll post it. Below are some we know about already. Others are still in the planning, so watch for updates. Help us to let everyone know so people show up. Nothing sadder than a room of 4, and the one phrase we hear too much is “I would have gone if I had known”. We personally think going to holiday happenings is essential to making it a cheerful season. No matter what your holidays at home are like, you can relax, eat a little, and talk to people who love the same things you do. Just think— someone else is doing all the work!!! That’s our Christmas present!!!!

Also if you are a vendor or store owner and would like to write a blog for us please contact us by leaving a comment here or on Instagram. Here’s your chance to promote yourself! We love to hear from your point of view, your successes and failures. We can add 3-4 pictures too. You only need to write about 200-300 words. Come on, let’s hear about how you got started or your biggest successes.

The Vintage Marketplace, Rainbow Calif.

The Vintage Marketplace photo booth

We love The Vintage Marketplace. @thevintagemarketplaceca. There is no question, no doubt, we just flat out l0ve it. We have met so many vendors there, some we see only there, others we seem to follow wherever they go. It turned into a great way for us to get to know customers too.

Many times we are waiting to say hi to a seller and get into conversations with customers and a whole lot of those customers are also junkers or crafters or “pick up stuff curbside” type of people.  They end up telling us about other venues, or sales, or good stores. We love the atmosphere that promotes friendliness. And we love following everyone! So many ideas brought to life.   Can’t wait till Sept.!!!!!!

Remnants of the Past and other stuff!!

Paula Marie’s Vintage Finds

All last week on our Instagram we have been posting pictures of our trip to Three Speckled Hens. What a great show. We wish we didn’t have to wait for Oct to go again. That’s probably the best thing you can say about a show. It was a wonderful time. Be sure and look at our pictures.

Last weekend we went to Remnants of the Past, which was in Southern Calif. for the first time and our first time going. It was held at the Orange County Fairgrounds by Centennial Barn. It’s a good location. It will be here in Oct again and we will post a couple of days ahead to remind everyone. Lots of vendors there that we knew, several we had just seen at Three Speckled Hens. Always nice to see people you know and chat a little. We want to welcome Remnants of the Past to  So. Calif. and we are glad to have a chance to see them grow here. One of the vendors was telling us a story about the song “Happy” by Pharrell and a group dance, sure wish we had video!!!!

There were several vendors we had never met, and hope to see again. Be sure and check our Instagram-weremadabout-to see more pictures. We have lots more shows on our calendar for the future, the next big one being Julian Junkture and The Barn Vintage Marketplace..  It is May 27-28 9-4pm. It’s free which is good since it’s going to be a tank of gas for us from where we live, and two hour drive.  Anyway, we haven’t been to Julian in years so it’s exciting. A beautiful area.

Shabby Chateau

In the next two-three weeks we hope to get out to Riverside for Vintique Alley and Vintage Flair and Mrs. Darlings and Made. Those are our favorites there. Then to Yucaipa for The Nest and also to Long Beach for several of the stores there, Casa de Luxe, Romantic Home, Vintage Emporium for sure. And Covina for Shabbyology and and and…June 2 and 3rd is put aside for Vintage Marketplace in Rainbow, Ca.  Not missing that one!! Mark your calendars, you won’t want to miss any of the fun.

Today we went to Fullerton to see Made New Home Furnishings at 115 S Harbor, Fullerton. We were thrilled at what DeeDee has done with this space. That store is in such a great area, with all the restaurants. There’s a crepes place going in across from her soon and lots going on with the Mercantile Market which is the first Sat of each month in her parking lot. Next one is June 3rd. Quite a collection of makers as they try to keep it varied and new. 10-4 pm, free. The store is open Tues-Sat so go on by and say hi. Also right down the street is The Brick Basement 113 N Harbor, and The Found Shop, 122 N Harbor,  if you want to make a day of it. That’s our favorite activity-figuring out how to put together a day of visiting all these stores. One a day doesn’t cut it anymore, we want to hit 2 or 3. Addiction is one word often used about us!!

Again, please let us know of events close to us. We do want to visit as many as possible and share them with you. All the vendors we know are so hard working, they deserve to get as much attention as possible. Several of them spent two days at Remnants and then we saw them Sunday at Driving Miz Daisy. There were a few we also saw at Three Speckled Hens too!  We are in awe! It is hard work to haul furniture around and hope you are going to sell it.  So help us out by leaving a comment here or on Instagram to tell us about shows and stores, we’ll try our best to get there and tell others.

Road Trip!!!!!

Three Speckled Hens

We did it! We finally got on the road and went up north to Paso Robles for Three Speckled Hens. Everyone told us it was one of the best—and guess what? They were right. We loved every minute. Got to see so many vendors we know, Liz from Countryside Barn, Micayo from Lilwoods, Michelle from The Junk Diva, Lisa from BBlessed Flannels, Diana from Broke Jewels, Michael from Miller Rustic-Ivis was out shopping… Who else? Junk Style Design, Through the Porthole, Atomic. Rust, Show your age and many more, plus we met some wonderful dealers. Some pictures are up on Instagram because we wanted to get them out there, then if anyone was thinking of going it might persuade them to go on Sunday. We will be back for the next one for sure, with a truck! The fairgrounds there are very pretty, flowers, waterfall, the people were great-not a sour word was heard. And they were busy, the early birders bought so much, every dealer was moving stuff by the time we got there at 10. Lesson learned—-Go Early!!

Junque Love

We also went to Morro Bay and met Doug at Junque Love. It’s at 699 Embarcadero and we want to go back–like today, but maybe in a month. Fantastic store, loved Doug’s stories, want to meet his wife because she has a eye for design! Morro Bay was having a classic car parade-love seeing all those restored vehicles. Another kind of recycling.

Stopped in Solvang because we came home down the coast. We must of said “it’s beautiful” about the ocean about 400 times till we started saying SHUT UP, ENOUGH!!! You’d think we lived a long way from the beach, instead of about an hour, the way we behaved. There’s something about getting away from home, even for a couple of days, that makes you appreciate every site you see. We all got along, this mother-daughter duo did good, and our friend Barbara put up with our friendly banter with good grace.  Can’t wait to go again! We are planning a trip to Arizona next. What has been your best trip? Got suggestions for us? Let us know.

Thanks for reading…Amy and Bonnie

April Activities

Hi, it’s Bonnie

Happy May! Does anyone else remember May poles? What a simple time that was. Our school would dance around the pole winding fabric lengths and make a bow at the bottom. God I’m old!!! But it was fun!!!

Speaking of  fun, in April we started off a great month,  with BarnHouse Chicks market in Thousand Oaks. Wow, the vendors were great! Even vendors we know were talking about the other ones, saying they had wonderful merchandise and arranged their booths expertly. Met some we didn’t know and are now following to see where we can find them next. Make sure you follow the ones you like, that’s why I add the @ instagram tag.

As you can tell we are trying to find more of these special events and shops so if you know of any we haven’t mentioned please put in a comment here or on our Instagram, we’re mad about, where we now have over 3500 followers!!!! Pretty good for not having a store or selling anything!  The saddest thing happened last week, we went to a store we love and found out they are closing. The rent is going way way up and they decided to try other avenues. I hate to see that happen and the only way we can keep all these places in business is to give them our business. We are trying to get to more events from Ventura to San Diego. We want to see more of you! We are planning a trip to Paso Robles on May 6th for Three Speckled Hens, already got our hotel and tickets!! We also want to go to Arizona soon and on the bucket list is Round Top Texas, of course!!!

Stores we stopped at in April include the ones in  Crestline’s TopTown,@ The_Rusty_Bucket_, My Favorite Things, @Encompass, and Sara’s Antiques and Atelier, it is gorgeous in the mountains and a lovely days trip! We only went up that far but next trip plan on hitting Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear too. It really clears your head to go up there. I used to live in the mountains and I really miss it. Nothing like fresh cool air. Did I say it’s beautiful up there?

We hit Savoir Faire in Fullerton, which is always the first Sunday of each month. It is growing rapidly and is one of the markets that has vendors who only sell there.  We always get to see @Rusticandrefined_Vintage and Love_picking_junk there as well as @Piers2oranges, three of our favorites. It’s a place to see unusual pieces from some vendors who have been doing this a long time. And of course, we always make sure we get to@ Drivingmizdaisy,  2nd Sunday of each month. We are using the @ for Instagram on purpose so you can look them up easily. If you go to no other fleamarkets or stores we would recommend Driving Miz Daisy for the one you can get too. It has a great selection of booths, it is very well divided between furniture, handmade, food booths or trucks, jewelry and clothing. Some markets have an abundance of jewelry or all the same booths, Not here! Food trucks all over. It also has a booth with fresh fruit, we got yummy strawberries last time, and they really try to arrange the booths so you have a variety of things to browse. Plus they always have music, sometimes 2-3 small bands, which is fun to stop and refresh and listen to. It’s at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, lots of trees and green around. Did we mention real restrooms? Add all this together and it will be your favorite monthly adventure. You never know what you will find! We go every month.

We try to get to stores in-between flea markets because we are so firm in our belief that we need to keep all of them in business. We don’t buy much, our houses are full, and it’s impossible with all the great pieces we see, but we believe that we are doing our part by writing about them, and putting them on Instagram and Facebook. Let us know events you are selling at or going to.

One of the pictures is of @ Newagain_furnishings in Glendora. It’s fairly new so get over there and support them, at 1200 E Route 66, Glendora, Calif. Open Thurs-Sat. I am in love with just about everything in the store. I think Joann has a great eye for home decor.

We’re Back…………………

Matilda’s Mouse

WE ARE BACK!!!

This is Amy…

After a seemingly forever un-intended and unwanted hiatus, we are back up and running. We would like to thank everyone for their support while we worked through this. Our site was hacked and infected with some malicious spam. Our blog links were re-routed to some unsavory content. Our host Siteground protected us and our readers by taking the site down immediately.  We would highly recommend Siteground for hosting. Sucuri cleaned our and will be keeping us safe from now on. Once we decided to engage Sucuri, they had us back up in a few hours.

Matilda’s Mouse

While we were down, we were quite busy. Mom (Bonnie) has been visiting lots of markets and keeping everyone updated on Instagram  and Facebook. I am so thankful for her.

We are quite excited to say we will be going to Three Speckled Hens in a couple of weeks! Our room is booked and tickets printed. This is our first (really) out of town event!! We are looking forward to seeing everyone we know and meeting new vendors. Watch for us, we will be sporting some new We’re Mad About… swag.

This is Bonnie…

Boarding House Broads

I have indeed been to quite a few stores and flea markets. Today I made it out to Matilda’s Mouse in Valley Center with a friend. It was quite a trek for us but we found it! A darling barn filled with antiques and vintage pieces, it was worth the trip. Every month now they have a 2 day event out there, with vendors outside. The very first one we saw was Boarding House Broads. Tracy and Valentina are so fun, so informative. They have been very busy lately because Tracy is heading up the Vista Vintage and Makers Market which is April 30th. This is the second one and now they have 80 some vendors. It is going to be so much fun, can’t wait. See you there????

Matilda’s Mouse is a great place to explore. We went around twice to catch everything. The other outside vendors were tables full of antiques, lots of silver and china. Fascinating to browse. We would recommend going out there, the next one is May 19-20, 10-5.

And then we went to…

Lilwoods Vintage from Driving Miz Daisy

All over the Map-jennaleecompany from Behind the Picket Fence

Citrus Coast Trading Company at Driving Miz Daisy

Hi, it’s Bonnie.
As we were telling you, Feb has already gotten going fast. We went to Behind the Picket Fence in Costa Mesa on the 4th and saw many many dealers we know. That venue is full. The traffic is good, everyone was buying, and everyone was happy. We have been posting pictures on the instagram and will post more in the next week.

Friday we headed over to Shabbyology 534 E Edna Place Covina, so we could see their Valentine display. Unfortunately the tea had to be canceled so we’ll hit the next one, but there was no way we were going to miss the decorations. I bought a darling little cherub for my sister for Valentines, and my friend got a few little gifts for her household. The holiday was in full bloom there with a small Valentine tree decorated with a little card garland. We were thrilled to see they are now carrying Rae Dunn, that line is so popular.

On the way home we stopped in at Aj’s Shabby Attic in Glendora. They have such a way with arranging, we love to see how it changes from visit to visit. Be sure to check out their vendor in the back room, Vintageremix also. Last but not least we hit  Curbside Treasures in Upland and said hi to Dee. They have a nice store in a industrial park, as many stores are doing now. Their paint is Country Chic, we took a class and liked the different colors. They are in the second row, not street side, so make sure you find unit 1 at 1182 Monte Vista, Upland. Just follow the signs, open Fri Sat Sunday’s.

Sat. we set out nice and early. It was sprinkling a little, thank goodness that’s all. It’s a adventure to get to My French Farm, but worth it. They have a small barn behind their gorgeous house, beautiful view, and the barn is filled with french-inspired pieces. Lots of carved mirrors and frames, lovely dressers and buffets, and lots of accessories to create that special look. We’ll announce their next opening in the spring. They are sweet and welcoming there, and it’s sure to be a hit with anyone who goes.

From there we stopped in at Back in Time. It is at 1740 W. Redlands Blvd, Redlands. It is really a antique store with some vintage items. Of course I like the shabby, the rusty and the distressed so that’s what I took pictures of. It has a lot of booths and a garden area.

Sunday, funday! Driving Miz Daisy-easily my favorite flea market. It takes awhile to get through because we are talking to so many vendors. I love seeing the new pieces they have and finding out where they are going next. So many are going to be at Junk in the Trunk-B St Junky for example, and Junk Bonanza or The Vintage Marketplace. We are going to all three and will post lots of pictures. It really is great to see everyone we have gotten to know and post pictures of their booths. I think I am going to have to start going earlier, every single vendor said they sold quite a bit before we got to them. That’s the point but I want to see it all too. All the vendors are so nice, they all have different pieces and different stories we love to hear.

What a weekend! Lots more places to go see this week too before Junk Bonanza on the 17th and 18th in Del Mar. Can’t wait!!! Be sure and check out the Instagram, lots more pictures there, we are wild to be over 2600 followers in less than one year. Also click on the ads on the side of the blog if you would, they make us a few $$ to keep us getting out there. And make sure everyone you know is signed up for both the blog and Instagram-pretty please and thank you. We want to get feedback to keep us finding new stores and vendors also, so if you know of any we haven’t been to, let us know. Tomorrow we are trying to get to Lake Elsinore to check out the stores there.

Thanks for reading…Bonnie

Upcycled Cottage

Last Sat at Behind the Picket Fence we got to see Upcycled Cottage again. We did a short blog on her before. We loved her booth with these cute signs, the metal letters are crimped-which gives it a whole different look. Be sure and check our instagram weremadabout for more pictures from Behind the Picket Fence, one of our favorite places for vintage. Next one will be May 6th, don’t miss it!

February Fun

Pier to Oranges Home Decor refinished this beautiful table and chairs we came across at Behind the Picket Fence. Just love the material and the distressed look of it.

Upcycled Cottage

Hi, it’s Bonnie. I just looked at our calendar for Feb. and boy are we busy. I hope some of you can make it to these events, it’s going to be so much fun!

We spent last Saturday at Behind the Picket Fence. Love that venue, and not just for the apple pie, although…. We saw so many vendors we knew and that’s always a good time. They choose and mix their sellers so well, every booth is a new experience. Next one is May 6th, it’s at 1720 Adams Ave Costa Mesa. Free admission, it goes from 9-3 pm. Among the booths we found Upcycled Cottage, Itty Bitty Vintage Shop, Sweet Peas Charm, Lavendar Apothecary-had to get a candle- and so many more.

Feb 11th-We are heading out early to My French Farm. I love this barn full of french and french inspired pieces. It’s at 34004 Newport Avenue Mentone Calif. 9-3 pm. Be sure to get directions, it’s not a place you are going to stumble over, but worth the travel. Simply gorgeous, well arranged to show off, and a beautiful setting. Only open for the day on the 11th. But we can’t stay long because I booked us for a tea at Shabbyology in Covina at 1:00. We have never been and I thought their Galentine’s Tea would be a lot of fun. They are at 534 E. Edna Place, open Fri, Sat and Sun 10-5pm. I can’t wait to see their Valentines display. Jackie, the owner, is the best decorator around! Their phone is 626-890-6091 to check if they are full, but don’t worry, another tea will be coming soon!

That’s not all! On Feb 17th-18th we are headed to Del Mar for Junk Bonanza. Sooooo excited! Started by Ki Nassauer, Flea Market Style magazine. I remember her being one of the first to start upcycling and repurposing junk years ago. I stole so many of her ideas!  It’s going to be another long day, I want to see everything!!!

And then we are off to Junk in the Trunk Feb 25th and 26th at the Pomona Fairplex. Finally a big fleamarket near me! Lots of vendors there that we know and can say hi too. I know it’s going to be a huge success for all of them. We loved going last year to San Diego and were thrilled to find it close by. They have so many great vendors from Arizona, have to get our trip there planned! It’s fun to see how different areas start trends and how quickly they spread.

Of course, in between, we have Driving Miz Daisy on the 2nd Sunday of each month, Tustin Antique fleamarket, going to try to get to Long Beach flea market and to 4th Fridays at the Pike down there, as well as all the stores we love too. Busy as a bee, no time to get in trouble. Which reminds me- if you know of any stores we haven’t found please let us know. I love exploring and telling others about these places.

Hoping you can make it to some of these. I can hardly wait to get going, so much to see and do.

The Vintage Marketplace

Countryside Barn

Countryside Barn

The Vintage Marketplace is one of our favorite markets. The market always has the best vendors and sweet finds. They started out at Rainbow Oaks Park in the Rainbow area. For the last year, I’ve been fortunate enough to have it close to home in Temecula. The Temecula location is in ranch country, surrounded by mountains and horse properties. Simply beautiful. Well now they are headed “Back to their roots”! We are very excited for the market to be headed home.
