Behind the Picket Fence

Behind the Picket fenceThis past weekend, I finally made it to Behind the Picket Fence. (yes, the apple pie is really good). So happy I finally made it to this market and sad I didn’t go sooner. This market takes place on a regular basis and is located in the parking lot of Piecemakers- an awesome little fabric and craft store in Costa Mesa.

Now, I adore small markets and the pie and fabric store was a bonus. Mom won a raffle prize (she cheated) and I was jealous. But, she did share the gift certificate to Lavender Apothecary with me and we both walked away with sweet smelling candles.

I was most excited to meet Reina, owner of Upcycled Cottage. She is a sweet gentle creative soul. I have been looking forward to meeting her. We shared her upcoming event on our Facebook and she was sweet enough to make it a point to thank us. Upcycled Cottage

Reina’s booth was the second one in at BTPF and it was set up so lovely. Great windows, kitchen signs, and frames. Baskets of throw pillows, step stools, side tables and more.  Her windows are filled with scriptures and beautiful sayings in script. If I had a dozen more walls in my house, I would have bought a few. As it is, I scored a couple of fancy frames.

Upcycled CottageUpcycled cottage has a Vintage Pop Up sale coming up in Valencia August 19th and 20th, starting at 8am. Fourl Road, Valencia, Santa Clarita. Most definitely head over there is you are in the area or up for a day road trip. You will not be disappointed. Vintage. Antiques. Farm. Shabby. Rusty. You name it, she will probably have it. Check out her Facebook page for more details.

RXRCraftsWe then headed to Fullerton for Merchants Mercantile where I met Renee who owes RXR Crafts. Mom bought me this awesome heart for office wall and I bought the Love you more. My son’s grandmother used to say this to him all the time. (Miss you Sheri) I think these are perfect additions to my office. They look great among the boxes I haven’t unpacked yet. Hubby put these up for me right away, YAY!

Rustic Rummage

At Inspired Market last week I was lucky enough to meet Chris and Sara from Rustic Rummage. I say lucky because we love meeting talented vendors (and Amy wasn’t there) so I was the one. They are from Arizona, as so many of the vendors we met at Junk in the Trunk were. Wow, I almost wish I lived there, except for the heat that I am having enough trouble with here. Arizona has been exploding with great dealers lately, I am so jealous.
Chris makes these treasures for their company and works a full-time job, and they have 3 kids. Wow. Two people together makes everything easier, as Amy and I have found out. Chris and Sara seem to be a great team. The business card for Rustic Rummage says reclaimed, restored, renewed. We love that. They use reclaimed wood for their projects. Chris said pallet wood is too hard to work with and we agree. Our little pallet projects are taking more time than they should-more about them later.

I saw wood boxes, wood signs, wood drink stations, and the wood letters shown in pictures. I love the Vino one—I think it fits me! All their pieces are beautifully finished, no rough edges to be seen, and their prices were reasonable, even coming from Az.

They often do shows in Calif. so check their web site, RusticRummage.com for the next antique market nearby. You can send them a message there too. I love their workmanship and how about that sign/old door? Clever, huh? That sets you up for the kind of imagination and talent they have.
Hope to run into them again soon, I didn’t get nearly enough pictures to show you guys everything, but it’s a start. Nice meeting them both.

Riverside Wanderings

The Weathered FeatherI spent some time in Riverside this past week as those who follow our Instagram know. I used to work out there, at the Auto Club, many years ago so I knew the town a little. Some things have not changed, the Mission Inn, where my grandparents were married, is of course, still beautiful, awe-inspiring, but what I found were some stores that have opened within the last few years. And oh, they are good ones.
First would have to be Vintique Alley. We have followed Bobbi’s Instagram for awhile. I literally ache for a farm table she has. The entire store is done so well, I would rate it one of the best I’ve seen, as far as how it is decorated. Made. The vendors they have are all inspired, and their creations are placed all over the shop, which makes such an interesting mix. Not a wasted space to be found. And the back, outside, is a place to wander. Not so much when I went, over 108 degrees, but now the weather is cooling (ha,ha) to just under 100 it is better. Tons of stuff waiting to be discovered. I want to live in this store.
There’s a couple more though to explore. Went over to The Weathered Feather. Love the name, and the store is better. They hold such interesting classes, and carry home décor items, jewelry, and supplies to make some of your own inventions. We got a nice welcome from the owner, Lisa, even though she was getting set up for a class. She showed us the shop and explained each section. Thanks again.  Vintique Alley
From there we headed to Made. Talk about unique. We loved the wide range of reused upcycled found items. Each one is unique, well-done and not the same old thing. They have some repurposed items made into fountains I love. Water is so soothing, especially with the current weather. When you enter the shop and hear it you get a zen like feeling. But that’s the least of the amazing stuff there, there are wine racks and benches and lights and tables, each made with such care and love. Saving the planet piece by piece.
Riverside has a market night every Friday 6-9. It is on Sunnyside Dr. in Magnolia Center, packed with food and craft vendors and a farmers’ market, it sure sounds good to me. We are going to try to make it out there.
Made.More later on some of the other stores in Riverside and nearby we visited, but overall what a great day. Nothing better than discovering new places to go and these three were among the best ever. Thanks to all of them for being so gracious and letting us take pictures.
